Twisted Tulips

A friend of mine was lucky to receive this tulip bowl for Valentine's Day. A tip from her to make your tulips last longer: she said that every morning she put a couple of ice cubes in the water. Tulips do not like the heat as they will open very quickly. Tulips can actually continue to grow 2" after they are cut. Do you have any secrets to make your tulips last longer?

Modern Cymbidiums

I am very excited to be creating flowers for Hughes Clothing here in Victoria. The store itself is a great space and I love to see my flowers displayed in such a beautiful environment. If you have never been to Hughes, you must go check out their amazing designer clothing and their very helpful staff!

Hellebores - Garden

This is a hellebore, and it is the first flower to bloom in my garden. I love to be able to pick flowers from my garden, knowing exactly how fresh it is and where it came from is pretty great!

Center pieces - DIY Daffodils

These mini daffodils are just what we all need right now to remind us that spring is coming!
  • Pick up one or more 4" potted mini daffodils at your local florist or even grocery store.
  • Take a plant and place it in a pot of your choice and be sure it is a pleasing scale (my pots are from the Vancouver company 18 Karat). I stuff paper or bubble wrap inside the bigger pot to steady the smaller inside pot.
  • Then comes the fun part: finish by placing bright green reindeer moss around the plant!

At $4.00 a plant these could be a really affordable DIY wedding project for a cheery, yellow January  wedding! Line them down a bar or buffet table. A trio would look lovely on the signing table too.

White Hydrangea

There is something so romantic and soft about a room full of white hydrangea. The nice thing about using hydrangea is that you don't actually need a lot of flowers to have an impact. And I think they look stunning all massed together with a few dark green accents. But be careful with hydrangea as they are very sensitive to heat and can wilt! Hydrangea is also very unpredictable, it may last anywhere from two to six days.
